India made 404 runs in the first innings thanks to their top and middle order batsman Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Rishabh Pant, and Shreyas Iyer. They were supported by good batting from bowlers Ravichandran Ashwin, and Kuldeep Yadav. Taijul Islam and Mehidy Hasan Miraz took four wickets each in India’s first innings.

In reply, Bangladesh collapsed with the terrific bowling by Indian bowlers. Bangladesh was all out for a paltry score of 150 in just 55.5 overs. The pick of the bowlers was Left arm Wrist spinner, Kuldeep Yadav. He has taken five wickets for 40 runs in his 16 overs. The initial damage to Bangladesh was caused by Hyderabadi fast bowler Mohammed Siraj. He removed both the opener in quick succession.

Siraj with a length ball removed the opener Shanto on the very first ball of the match with the score reading 0/1. Then wickets tumbled at regular intervals, and India wrapped up the Bangla first Innings for 150.

India started their Second Innings with a massive lead of 254 runs. The Indian openers have put up an opening stand of 70 runs, with K L Rahul again falling for a minor score of 23. But it was Shubman Gill and Cheteshwar Pujara who continued the show for India, as they together put up 113 runs, with Gill making his first test century. He has scored a splendid 113 runs.

Then Pujara enhanced the lead for his team as he together with Virat Kohli 75 runs in just 73 balls. Pujara has made his century after four years. He was not out with 102 runs made in just 130 balls, with 13 fours. Soon after the Pujara century, the Innings was declared by Indian Captain, having a mammoth lead of 512 runs.

Bangladesh had started their second innings on a positive note, as their opener contributed 124 runs before Shanto was out for 67 runs. The other opener Zakir Hasan carried on the innings with little support from the other batsmen, except their skipper Shakib Al Hasan. Zakir made the lone century in this test from Bangladesh and was out for 100.

The Bangladesh Skipper Shakib has a well-made 84 runs before he was bowled out by a length ball, pitching on the leg stump bowled by Kuldip Yadav.  The score was 320/8 at the end of Shakib’s Innings. The last two batsmen fell for Zero and India was 1-0 up in the Two Test Match Series.

The India vs Bangladesh First Test match has brought good relief for Chateswar Pujara, as he was century-less for the last four years. He made a massive 192 runs in the match, both innings together, and unfortunately, he missed his century in the first innings. Shubman Gill made his first century in test cricket. But it was K L Rahul, who is in short of runs and needs to show his prowess in the coming match.

The Indian bowlers were on target with Kuldip Yadava managing to get 8 wickets in total. He was on the spot and clinical in his bowling destroying the middle and lower batting lineup in the first innings. In the second innings, it was Axar Patel who exploited the conditions and managed to get four wickets for 77 runs.

Bangladesh has come up with a good show in the second innings, but most of their batsmen are still short of runs and have to get good runs in the second test.

The Second match of the India vs Bangladesh Cricket Tour 2022 will start on December 22 – 26, 2022 at Mirpur Bangladesh. India is 1-0 up in the two-match test series.
