This was followed by the creation of the world’s second national football association, the Scottish Football Association in 1873. The first was The Football Association, the world’s only governing body.

The nations of continental Europe decided to go it alone and ‘FIFA’ was born in Paris. On 21st May 1904 the Football governing bodies of France, Belgium, Denmark, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland joined and were treated as founding members. Germany joined on the same day but was not treated as a founding member as it sent a telegram message only.
